People                    THE LOVE OF CHRIST BETWEEN US AND                                                          EACH LOVE

Celebrant               O God, who brought us to the bright light of this                                   new day

People                    BRING US TO THE GUIDING LIGHT OF                                                                ETERNITY.

The Collect of the Day

Celebrant               God be with you.

People                    And also with you.

Celebrant               Let us pray.

Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Prayer of Confession and Restoration

All:         Eternal God, maker of the skies above,

lowly Christ, born amidst the growing earth,

Spirit of life, wind over the flowing waters,

                in earth, sea and sky,

                you are there

O hidden mystery,

                sun behind all suns,

                soul behind all souls,

                in everything we touch,

                in everyone we meet,

                your presence is around us,

                and we give you thanks.

But when we have not touched

                but trampled you in creation,

                when we have not met

but missed you in one another,

                when we have not received

but rejected you in the poor,

                forgive us,

and hear now our plea for mercy.

Celebrant:              Holy God,

All:                         Holy and mighty,

                                Holy and immortal,

                                Have mercy on us.

Celebrant:              Hear now the words of Jesus

for all who are truly sorry

and seek to renew their lives:

                                Your sins are forgiven.

                                Go in peace;

                                come and follow me.

                                Lead us now, O God,

                                to acknowledge your costly generosity

                                by living as forgiven people,

                                until heaven and earth rejoice

and the whole earth cries Glory!

                                through Christ our Lord. Amen..

Made one with Christ

and thus one with each other,

let us offer these gifts and with them ourselves,

a single, holy, living sacrifice.

The Prayer of Thanks

Celebrant:     The Lord be with you,

People:           AND ALSO WITH YOU.

Celebrant:     Lift up your hearts,

People:           WE LIFT THEM UP TO GOD.

Celebrant:     Let us give thanks to God,

People:           IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE BOTH THANKS AND PRAISE.

The Prayer of Thanksgiving

Celebrant:     We offer you praise, dear God,

                       and hearts lifted high,

for in the communion of your love

                       Christ comes close to us

and we come close to Christ.

Therefore, with the whole realm of nature

                       around us,

                       with earth, sea and sky,

                       we sing to you.

With the angels of light who envelop us,

with Luke and the host of heaven.

with all the saints before and beside us,

with brothers and sisters, east and west,

                       we sing to you.

                       And with our loved ones,

                       separate from us now,

who yet in this mystery are close to us,

we join in the song of your unending greatness.

So, come to this table, you who have much faith

                       and you who would like to have more;

you who have been to this sacrament often,

                       and you who have not been for a long time;

you who have tried to follow Jesus,

and you who have failed. Come.

It is Christ who invites us to meet him here.

The Story of the Last Supper

Celebrant:    Blessed is our brother Jesus, who walks with us the road of our world’s suffering.

and who is known to us in the breaking of bread.

On the night of his arrest Jesus took bread

and having blessed it

he broke the bread

and gave it to his disciples, saying,

‘This is my body, given for you‘.

In the same way he took wine

and having given thanks for it

he poured it out

and gave the cup to his disciples, saying,

‘This cup is the new relationship with God,

sealed with my blood.

Take this and share it.

I shall drink wine with you next

in the coming Kingdom of God.’

Loving God,

it is through your goodness that we have

this bread and wine to offer,

which earth has given and human hands have made.

In the sharing of this bread,

may we know your resurrection presence,

and may we know that, in touching all bread, all matter,

it is you that we touch.

What we do here is celebrate the life that

Jesus has shared among his community

through the centuries and shares among us now.

New Testament Lesson                                               Hebrews 13: 1-8, 15-16

Psalm 81: 1, 10-16

1              Sing with joy to God our strength&

and raise a loud shout to the God of Jacob.

10           I am the Lord your God,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt and said,*

“Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”

11           And yet my people did not hear my voice,*

and Israel would not obey me.

12           So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their hearts,*

                   to follow their own devices.

13           Oh, that my people would listen to me!*

that Israel would walk in my ways!

14           I should soon subdue their enemies*

and turn my hand against their foes.

15           Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,*

and their punishment would last for ever.

16           But Israel would I feed with the finest wheat*

and satisfy him with honey from the rock.

Gospel                                                                                       Luke 14: 1, 7-14

Homily                                                                                        Martha

An Affirmation of Faith

All:         We believe in God above us,

maker and sustainer of all life,

                of sun and moon,

                of water and earth,

                of male and female.

We believe in God beside us,

Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh,

born of a woman, servant of the poor,

tortured and nailed to a tree.

A man of sorrow, he died forsaken.

                He descended into the earth

                to the place of death.

On the third day he rose from the tomb.

                He ascended into heaven

                to be everywhere present,

and his kingdom will come on earth.

We believe in God within us,

the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire,

                life-giving breath of the church,

                spirit of healing and forgiveness,

source of resurrection and of eternal life. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

Leader:  It is in the mystery of communion with Christ

that we pray for the church throughout the world,

                praying in particular for:

We pray for this community of faith and for all                                      people, praying in particular for:

We pray for the sick, the bereaved, the oppressed,

and the homeless, praying in particular for:

We pray for the broken and torn fabric of the earth

as it yearns for healing, praying in particular for:

And because you are one with us, O Christ, enable

us to share your life with the world by sharing

our own lives with the world.

And so we pray, in the words you have taught us:

                OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN,

                HALLOWED  BE YOUR NAME,

                YOUR KINGDOM COME,

YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS HEAVEN,

GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY BREAD,

                FORGIVE US OUR SINS,

AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST US,

SAVE US IN THE TIME OF TRIAL

                AND DELIVER US FROM EVIL,

                FOR THE KINGDOM, THE POWER

                AND THE GLORY ARE YOURS,

                NOW AND FOR EVER. AMEN.

Sharing of the Peace

Celebrant:              Many grains were gathered together to make this bread,

many grapes were mixed to make this wine.

So we who are many, and come from many places,

are one in Christ. May the peace of Christ be with you.

People:                   And also with you.

Celebrant:              Let us greet one another with signs of peace.

The Invitation

Celebrant:              The table of bread and wine is now to be made ready.

It is the table of company with Jesus,

and with all those who love him.

It is the table of sharing with the poor of the world,

                       with whom Jesus identified himself.

It is the table of communion with the earth

                       in which Christ became incarnate.
